Conditions for Bacon Carcase Competition
1. Entries are restricted to two per exhibitor. Animals must be the bona fide property of Exhibitors and entries will not be accepted from Quality Bacon Associations. Members of such Associations must enter Pigs individually.
2. Pigs accepted for the Competition must be within the kill-out weight of
between 60 and 83 kgs. Pigs that are not within the specified weight may be displayed in the Competition Tent but will not be judged in the competition. (Exhibitors attention is particularly drawn to this condition).
3. The Society or the Curers can accept no responsibility for any damage or condemnation, either during transit or after slaughter resulting in any carcase being unable to be cured and thus eliminated from the competition.
4. The following information will be required:
(a) Breed/Cross of Pigs and Breed of Sire and Dam.
(b) B.P.A. exhibitors are required to give the Ear No. and date of Birth.
These details will be requested before the pigs have been despatched to the bacon factory.
5. Pigs will be cured by A. W. Curtis & Sons Ltd., - slaughtering details and
date to be confirmed. Of the carcases entered in the Competition up to
20 carcases will be selected for display and judging at the Lincolnshire Show, with discretion to exclude any carcase that would not make satisfactory exhibition bacon.
6. All pigs should be tattooed on producers premises with a tattoo slap mark as usual AND an additional mark on the LEG, FLANK & SHOULDER of BOTH SIDES to ensure that the whole carcase can readily be identified during and after CURING as a COMPETITION ENTRANT. Where TWO pigs are entered from the same producer, do ensure that the extra mark used is pig specific, thank you.
(Exhibitors attention is particularly drawn to this condition).
7. All pigs will be purchased through A. W. Curtis & Sons Ltd. at current prices.
8. A W Curtis and the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society reserve the right to display one side of bacon due to market and enforcement guidance.
